Before I Tell You

We all know the rhyme.
Secrets, secrets are no fun unless you share with everyone.
But that’s not true for this secret.
This secret is not meant to be shared.
It’s locked inside me.
Always trying to escape by pushing me beneath the surface.
Drowning me.
Still, I keep it hidden.
Until one look into his dark, consuming eyes convinces me to tell him everything.
And I try to. I really do.
But sometimes, secrets have a way of revealing themselves on their own.
Even when we least expect it.

BEFORE I SAW YOU

We all know the rhyme.
Sticks and stones may break my bones,
but words will never hurt me.
Except that’s a lie.
Because his words didn’t just hurt me,
they broke my heart.
A heart that has only ever beat for him.
Shattering me.
But after one moment stuck in an elevator together,
his walls come down and buried feelings crawl to the surface to play.
And play, we do.
So I forgive him.
It’s hard not to when he’s been the only man I’ve ever loved.
The only man able to give me what I need.
But the question is,
will he forgive me?

BEFORE I LOVED YOU

What if everyone you’ve ever loved has always let you go?
Living most of my life alone, I’ve learned to rely on one person.
And one person only.
Me.
But after one night in a bar,
seeking a distraction from a tall, dark, and handsome stranger,
I ended up with more than I bargained for.
Two vivid pink lines on a white plastic stick.
And after finally finding the nameless man who has invaded my dreams for weeks,
I feel ready for this new chapter of my life to begin.
Until the monster from my nightmares appears with a vengeance,
keeping me from the one person in the world
who would never let me go.

BROKEN IN THE DARK

BROKEN.

That’s what I am when he finds me in the dark,
saving me from the vicious grasp of a bloodthirsty monster by bringing me back to the only place I ever called home.
THE ALARIE ESTATE.
A fortress where I spent my childhood, safely hidden behind impenetrable stone walls.
A place where my heart only ever beat for him.
But all that changed one ominous night seven years ago when I was forced to leave behind everything and everyone I knew.
And now, as I stand before him saying my vows, I no longer see the gentle boy I grew up with,
but a man of great strength and power who thrives in darkness.
To the world, he’s a deadly predator.
To me, he’s my husband.
Ready to burn the world to ashes and annihilate any monster who dares to touch me,
including the one with no face who hides in the shadows, stopping at nothing to get me back.
LE DIABLE.
A man feared by everyone except one.
